I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, the stories and photos provide a memento of the Cubs finally winning the World Series; on the other, the text of those stories is atrociously edited. The book is largely reprints of Daily Herald stories published during the 2016 season, and they contain far too many editing mistakes. There are several instances where entire words have been omitted from sentences. The meaning could be determined by context, but it was very obvious a word had been dropped. There's an instance where "inn" is used where "in" should be used, and another where the "t" is left of the word "went." A particularly glaring mistake occurs on page 144, when the text reads, "Maddon gave the start at catcher to rookie Willson Contreras, who teamed with Heyward to tag out Adrian Gonzalez trying to score the game's first run in the third inning." It's accompanied by a photo of the play; the caption for the photo reads, "Willson Contreras tags out Adrian Gonzalez at home during the second inning of Game 4." So, was it the second or the third inning? The book doesn't know. Oh, and that mistake I mentioned about omitting the "t" from "went" occurs on this very same page. And these are just some of the mistakes I noticed in casual reading. I shudder to think what I would find if I actually fact checked or seriously proofread it... because, clearly, no one at the Daily Herald did.Despite the editing, I did enjoy reading this book and reliving the championship season. I'm also very glad I found a used (like new) copy for significantly less than the cover price. I think books in general are overpriced, but I'd be particularly upset if I'd paid the full $26.95 price for something that was apparently so carelessly put together that the publisher couldn't bother to proofread it.Bottom line: Cubs fans will enjoy the book, but do not pay full price; it's not worth it.
I show this to everyone who visits (friends & family)
